Indoor positioning will be one of the next big things in the mobile world. Imagine not getting lost in malls, airports, hospitals, and other places that are just as hard to navigate as a city. The possibilities and applications don’t stop there though, you can use the system to find a friend inside a building, or even that item at a store without having to go through finding a sales associate who doesn’t really know.
Nokia has developed an indoor tracking system that not only does 2D, but 3D positioning. The system is built on Bluetooth 4.0, is very inexpensive, and is accurate to 20cm. Nokia is leading the way to try to make it a standard by 2013, hopefully we’ll see Nokia phones with indoor positioning systems in the near future. Until then, take a look at this awesome demo.
