Today Nokia and Intel announced that they would be merging their own Linux OSs to create a single one. Intel will be giving Moblin, and Nokia will be giving Maemo together to create Meego.
Meego will be a software platform that will support a lot of devices: phones, handhelds, TVs, netbooks, mediaphones and cars! Nokia announced that Meego will be ready the second quarter of this year, together with new devices from different manufacturers. It is still not clear what happens with Maemo6, seems like Maemo5 will be the only version of Maemo since Meego is now Maemo, or perhaps Nokia will keep naming mobile computers (phones like the N900) under the Maemo branding while being MeeGo at the same time. ”Maemo6 will be MeeGo compatible…..consider Maemo6 already a MeeGo instance”
Mobiln and Maemo communities now have a new home at MeeGo.com.
